Ratanpurus

Ratanpurus has tonic, diuretic and demulcent properties and mainly found in Uttar Pradesh to Bengal southwards to Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Ratanpurus, bears scientific name Violaceae Hybanthus Enneaspermus. It has many common names attached to it in India. In Bengali, it is known as nunbora, where in Malayalam, it is commonly known as kalthamara, orelatharmara. In Tamil, it is called ori- laitamarai and in Telegu, it is called nilako-bari.

Ratanpurus, Indian Medicinal Plant Ratanpurus, a small perennial herb, generally15-30 cm tall in nature and comes with a woody base and numerous diffuse or ascending branches. Leaves of its trees are available in linear to simple form. These leaves are 4- 5 cm long in nature and has 0.2-0.8 cm wide. Its flowers come in red or purple colour. Its pedicels are 6-12 mm long and sepals are 2.5 mm long. Its fruit is available in small capsule form which has 0.6 cm diameter. Its seeds are white and 1.5 mm long.

Ratanpurus`s leaves and tender stalks are soft in nature commonly used as an extraction. It is sometimes used with oil to make a cooling lotion for the head. The dried powdered leaves are used for the treatment of asthma. Its root has diuretic characteristic, used as an infusion to treat gonorrhoea and urinary infections. It is also used for treating bowel problems among the children of the Santhals. Fruit of this Ratanpurus is used along with the other plant drugs to treat scorpion stings.
