Ratanpurus, a small perennial herb, generally15-30 cm tall in nature and comes with a woody base and numerous diffuse or ascending branches. Leaves of its trees are available in linear to simple form. These leaves are 4- 5 cm long in nature and has 0.2-0.8 cm wide. Its flowers come in red or purple colour. Its pedicels are 6-12 mm long and sepals are 2.5 mm long. Its fruit is available in small capsule form which has 0.6 cm diameter. Its seeds are white and 1.5 mm long.
Ratanpurus`s leaves and tender stalks are soft in nature commonly used as an extraction. It is sometimes used with oil to make a cooling lotion for the head. The dried powdered leaves are used for the treatment of asthma. Its root has diuretic characteristic, used as an infusion to treat gonorrhoea and urinary infections. It is also used for treating bowel problems among the children of the Santhals. Fruit of this Ratanpurus is used along with the other plant drugs to treat scorpion stings.
