Rajamkirusnan is one of the most prominent women writers in modern Tamil literature, who has written several short stories, novels and other literary works in Tamil language. Through her interesting works, she has significantly contributed to the development of the modern era in Tamil Literature. The Tamil author Rajamkirusnan has written several Tamil novels that have gained immense popularity and have been admired by the readers. Some of her most noteworthy and fascinating novels include Valaikkaram, Kurincitten, Amutamaki Varuka, Malarkal, Penkural and others.

As the husband of the renowned woman Tamil writer was an engineer who was involved in erecting hydro-electric power stations in the region of the Nilgiri Hills, Rajamkirusnan attained personal experience and knowledge about the region, the people and their culture. Based on these experiences, she composed the novel Kurincitten which became very popular and was widely praised.

The novel entitled Kurincitten, written by Rajamkirusnan, portrays the changes that occur in the life of the central character named Joki, who is a member of the Padaga community which resides in the Nilgiri mountains. The popular literary work in Tamil language alsoa depicts the process through which the peaceful and serene life of the people in the mountainous region of the Nilgiri has been crudely disturbed by the development project, which is undertaken by the local government. Moreover this prominent work of Rajamkirusnan also narrates how the inexperienced mountain tribes, who had no prior knowledge of the concept of money, have realised its value and importance. Eventually the tribal people begin to strive hard and toil extensively in order to obtain money, which they did not need in the first place.

The novel tells the tale of the family of the protagonist named Joki, who have their roots imbedded in traditional culture. They are not capable of adapting themselves to this dynamic social transformation. Thus the family falls behind in the competition for gaining economic dominance and power. The novel also tells the story of another important character named Kariyamallar. The family of Kariyamallar, on the other hand, is successfully able to adopt the modern techniques in order to survive and acquire wealth. His family mainly grows cash crops and gathers wealth.

As an effect of the economic inequality between these two families, the love affair that developed between the two younger members of the families become strained and complicated. In the concluding part of the story, the genuine love of the innocent couple emerges free through the barriers. But before the love of the young couple can become successful, the parents of Joki die after going through many hardships and financial problems. The Tamil novel Kurincitten written by the woman writer Rajamkirusnan is considered as an epic in prose.
