Praveen Kumar, Indian PoliticianPraveen Kumar is well known face as "Bheema" in the daily soap, "Mahabharata", a BR Chopra`s legendary television series broadcasted in Doordarshan. Praveen Kumar from the early age, he was an Indian athlete. Later he joined with the entertainment world. Now, he is an active member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Praveen Kumar was born on 6 December 1947. He is also known as Praveen Kumar Sobti. He has starred in more than 50 Hindi films. He is awarded Arjuna Award in year 1960 and 1970 Asian Games.

Praveen Kumar contested the 2013 Delhi Legislative elections on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket, but lost. Subsequently, in 2014, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Praveen Kumar Sobti who was better known as the star of Indian athletics in the 1960s and the 1970s, dominated in discus throws and hammer for several years.

Praveen Kumar became a double gold medallist in discus throwing in the 1966 and 1970 Asian Games holding the Asian Games record of 56.76 metres.

Praveen Kumar was a silver medallist in the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston and in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran. Praveen Kumar competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics and in the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Praveen Kumar made his debut film in "Raksha", a James Bond style Indian movie starring Jeetendra with him playing a large henchman Gorilla inspired by Jaws of The Spy Who Loved Me. He did similar role of large henchman Justin fighting against Jeetendra Kapoor in Meri Awaz Suno.

Praveen Kumar earned international acclaim when he played the role "Bheema" in B R Chopra`s popular mythological television series Mahabharata, making him a household name.

Praveen Kumar also played the role of "Saaboo" in Chacha Chaudhary, another T.V. series for a large number of episodes. After the Mahabharata, Praveen Kumar got many acting roles in Hindi and regional films. From that time, he entered in the regional political hemisphere of Haryana and Delhi.

In 2013, Praveen Kumar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Later, he contested in the Delhi assembly elections from the Wazirpur constituency on an Aaam Aadmi Party ticket, but he lost. The next year that is in the year 2014, Praveen Kumar joined in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
