The Prachitgad Fort is located on the western edge of the Chandoli National Park in the Sangli district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Standing at an elevation of 3,200 ft, Prachitgad is a hill fort situated in the Sahyadri mountain range.
History of Prachitgad Fort
Built in 1404 by Rana Jhakuray Surve, the Prachitgad Fort was again rebuilt in the 16th century by Rana Suryarao Surve. In the 1660s, the fort was captured by the Marathas and under the rule of Shivaji; Prachitgad was again repaired and renovated. After the rule of Sambhaji Maharaj, there are no notable historical records surrounding the fort till 1817. Finally in 1818, the Pandavgad Fort was captured by the British Empire and after Indian gained independence, the fort came under the control of the Government of India.

Located close to the Prachitgad Fort is the Chandoli National Park, a popular place of attraction mainly because of the exotic flora and fauna. Then there are the spots of Sada and Kandhar Doh. Sada is the formation made up of frozen lava, while, the Kandhar Doh is a waterfall on the Warana River. The fort also has an ancient Bhairav Bhawani temple on its premises and the Kunkeshwar Sun Temple at Sangameshwar, both of which are visited by tourists all year around.

The nearest railway station is at Sangameshwar at a distance of 19 km from the fort and by foot the Prachitgad Fort is accessible. The trek to the fort from Shringarpur is a 5 to 8 hours walk.
