Prabha Khaitan
Prabha Khaitan was a reputed Indian entrepreneur, novelist, poet and feminist who founded the Prabha Khaitan Foundation for enhancing the cultural, social and educational thresholds of the Indian society. She was awarded the Talented Woman award.

Prabha Khaitan, Indian Social ActivistPrabha Khaitan was a well-known Indian poet, novelist and entrepreneur who was also a strong feminist. She was associated with women`s issues actively and was the founder of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation, besides being the founder member of a women`s health-care organisation named `Figurette` which was established in the year 1966. She also commenced a business in leather exports during 1976. She had been honoured with the prestigious `Talented Woman` award as well as Top Personality Award, which was granted to her in appreciation of her grand contribution to Kendriya Hindi Sansthan scholar Rahul Sankrityayan literature.

Prabha Khaitan was born on 1st November, 1942 and also rendered her services to the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce as its President. She was admired for her Hindi translation of `The Second Sex` by Simone de Beauvoir. She possesses a Doctorate degree in Philosophy and Existentialism and firmly believed that one must make an attempt to teach others to fish instead of feeding him fish everyday.

Her Prabha Khaitan Foundation was aimed at promoting the educational, cultural and social scenario of the society. This NGO is present in Kolkata and conducts humanitarian projects at various parts of the nation which consists of Child Literacy Programmes and Aid Drives and Women`s Training Centres. Prabha Foundation is also known to arrange interactive sessions and discussions with numerous notable personalities in various spheres. Information was exchanged on a wide number of subjects. She died in 20th September, 2008.
