Pfutsero is a hill station in Phek District of Nagaland. This is the highest altitude town and the coldest inhabited place in Nagaland. Pfutsero is located at a distance of 70 kilometres from the state capital of Kohima. The town of Pfutsero is situated at an altitude of around 6,998 feet above sea level. This makes it the highest and also the coldest inhabited place in the state of Nagaland. Here, the temperatures drop to below zero during the winter nights. The town of Pfutsero is inhabited by the Chakhesang tribe. The spoken language is "Khezha" and "Chokri" but English is spoken and understood by nearly everyone in the village. Pfutsero has two main festivals which are "Sukrunyi" celebrated by the Chokri community on January 15 and "Tsukhenyie" celebrated by the Khezha community on May 6.

Pfutsero is a Christian town with almost all the locals being Christians, predominantly Baptist, however there are also Roman Catholic, the Pentecost, and Revivalist. The Baptist Theological College in Pfutsero is one of the oldest and among the best Theological Colleges in Nagaland.
Pfutsero is rapidly a tourist destination in Nagaland. The best time to visit Pfutsero is from mid October, the harvesting time to April. The most important festival of Pfutsero is the Khezhas. Tsukhenye festival in Pfutsero is celebrated in April/ May.
One can just go down to Pfutseromi Village from the main capital city of Nagaland which is only about 2.5 km from Pfutsero to witness the excitement of Tsukhenye from 24–27 April as the village celebrates it during this time.
One can also take a day trip to Khezhakeno Village of Nagaland. It is a very important village in the context of the Naga history. It is said that the first Nagas stayed at this village before moving on to other parts of Nagaland.
Visiting Information
The best way to reach the town of Pfutsero is by hopping into one of the many shared jeeps from either Kohima or Phek. The journey to Pfutsero from Phek district and Kohima takes around two to three hours based on the condition of the road. The landslides are a common cause of road blocks during the monsoon and post-monsoon season. The landscape during the drive is simply breathtaking with endless stretches of lush greenery all over the place and the bumpy roads add to the thrill factor of the road trip to Pfutsero.
