Pravar Sena II was succeeded by his son Narendra Sena. On the basis of an inscription in cave no. XVI of Ajanta, some scholars express the view that after the death of Pravar Sena II, there was a war of succession among the Vakataka princess and Narendra Sena came out victorious in this war of succession. But modern scholars do not interpret the inscription in this way:
Narendra Sena is said to have followed an aggressive policy. Immediately on accession to the throne had to face the attack of Nala king Bhavadatta-varman. After the death of Bhavadatta-varman he defeated his successor Arthapati. Some inscription indicated that he had defeated some enemies and his orders were respected in Kosala, Mekala and Malva. It is just possible that taking advantage of the early difficulties of Skanda Gupta, he might have captured Malva but his rule must have last only for a short time because Skanda Gupta has re-conquered the Malava. It is also possible that after defeating the Nala king of Bastar, he might have captured the states of Mekala and Kosala.
