The `census town` of Mundra is situated in the Kutch district of the western state of India, Gujarat. It is at a distance of 60 km from Bhuj. Geographically, the town is located between 22.85° North latitude and 69.73° East longitude at a height of 14 metres (45 feet) above mean sea level. Gandhidham, one of the major towns in Kutch district is located at a distance of 70 km. from Mundra.
The town was founded during the reign of Rao Bhojrajji. It is a fortified town surrounded by stonewalls. The stonewall was constructed out of huge blocks taken from the remains of Bhadreshwar, a holy city of the Jains. The Mundra port is the largest private port in India. Mundra is famous for its handicrafts, which includes tie-dye, block prints and Namda work by Mansoori people.
