Early Life of Masaba Gupta
Masaba is the daughter of the former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards and Neena Gupta in the 1980s. Her birth has been the source of rapid controversy and the emergence of the concept and development of the concept of single mother. Masaba Gupta did her schooling from jamnabai narsee school, Mumbai and then completed her formal education in fashion from S.N.D.T. in 2010.

When she showcased her collection at GenNext fashion show on Day Two of the LFW 2009, Masaba Gupta`s collection turned heads with its vibrant colours and bold patterns. She even won the `Most Promising Designer` title and had the crowd buzzing. In the year 2010, she opened her flagship store in Mumbai. Actress Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, and actress-host Mandira Bedi are among her clients.
In LFW Summer/Resort 2011 she has shown collection inspired from the Masai tribes of Tanazania. She named the collection `Straight from my soil`, as she is half African.

She is of the notion that it is important to give back to the nation whatever and whenever most of the designs are in. her designs are Indian in feel albeit with contemporary touch. "As young designers it is important to focus on India. At the same time we don`t have to go all ethnic and overdo the gota and zardosi. There is so much we can do with the weaves and also village embroideries." Masaba which means princess is an apt name for a fashion designer of a mixed heritage.
