Leisure tourism in Bilaspur District gives the opportunity to explore its rich history through the historical sites. Amongst the places of historical interest in Bilaspur District, the fort of Kotkahlur, Fort of Bahadurpur, Fort of Sariun, Fort of Tiun and more occupy a significant position. The prominent places of historical interest in Bilaspur District are as follows -

Fort of Kotkahlur: The fort is situated at a distance of few kms from Ganguwal Fort. It lies in Naina Devi Hill. The fort is a square structure built of stones, each side about 30 metres long and as much high. Its walls are about two metres thick. It is a two storey structure each about fifteen metres high. The floor of the second storey is supported by numerous high stone pillars. About 12 metres above the floor of the second storey there were certain window shaped places with small peeping holes for the garrison to investigate. Most of these hollows have now been closed with cement or iron-mesh. Within the fort, in the upper storey, is a small temple dedicated to Naina Devi with a stone idol. There are seven small ancient fortresses in the district at Bacchretu, Bahadurpur, Basseh, Fatehpur, Sariyun, Swarghat and Tiun.

Leisure Tourism in Bilaspur DistrictFort of Bahadurpur: This fort is located on the top of a hill known as Bahadurpur the highest point (1,980 metres) in the district, near Tepra Village at around 40 kms from Bilaspur. The range derives its name from the Bahadurpur fort. Due to the comparative greater height, it receives occasional snow fall in winter. The range is embellished by a beautiful small wood of deodar trees. The fort is said to have been built by Raja Keshab Chand (1620 AD). It is just 6 kms above Namhol. It was built prior to 1835, but now is in its ruins.

Fort of Sariun: This fort is located at the eastern side of the Tiun range at an elevation of about 1,500 metres above mean sea level. It is about 58 kms from Bilaspur. This fort has witnessed the struggle between the erstwhile state of Bilaspur and Kangra during the minority rule of Mohan Chand. This fort now remains in ruins. It appears to be rectangular edifice made of stones. Its main gate faces west. From the relics it can be said that the fort was about twelve meters high. The thickness of the walls is about one metre. Tradition holds that the fort was originally built by the same Raja of the erstwhile Suket State.

Fort of Tiun: Relics of this fort is situated on the top of a hill known as the Tiun. Fort Tiun range is located at 17 kms in length, at distance of about 45 kms from Bilaspur. It is about 10 kms from Ghumarwin. It was built by Raja Kahn Chand. It is rectangle in shape. The length of the fort was 400 metres with a breadth of 200 metres. The height of the wall varies from 2 metres to 10 metres. The main gate of the fort is of 3 metres height and of around 5 metres breadth. There were two water tanks inside the fort.

Fort of Bachhretu: Bachhretu is a beautiful place located on western slope of the district. Fort Bachhretu of Kotdhar is located at around 3 kms southward to Shahtalai. It is 3000 feet above the sea level. It is small ancient fort in Bilaspur District at Bachhretu. The well Known fort of Bachhretu lies in Kot Hill. The fort was constructed by Raja Ratan Chand of Bilaspur. The relics are as old as about six hundred years. The thickness of its walls must have been one metre tapering towards the top.
