Lalit Grand Palace is a 5 Star hotel in Srinagar, which is encompassed by the Himalayan Mountain Range and offers a scenic beauty of the Dal Lake. The palace was originally built for the royal family in the year 1910 by Maharaja Pratap Singh. It now has been turned into a luxurious hotel offering grand hospitality. The palace now has 113 palace rooms and suites, including 10 cottages and offers over 4,000 square feet of banqueting space. An indoor pool, tennis courts and spa treatments are some of the other specialty of this hotel. The hotel rooms are decorated in modern style with a touch of traditionalism.
History of Lalit Grand Palace
Earlier the palace was named as Gulab Bhavan, which was the former residence of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir from the Dogra Dynasty. The palace was built for Maharaja Pratap Singh as a summer residence. It was later decorated by his successor Maharaja Hari Singh. After the Indian Independence, Hari Singh moved to Mumbai and the palace was converted into a hotel in 1956- The Grand Palace. Then in the year 1998, Bharat Hotels took over it and renovated and extended it. In 2008, the hotel was renamed as "Lalit Grand Palace".
