Kumud Ranjan Mallick

Kumud Ranjan Mallick was a celebrated Bengali poet who lived during the era of Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Early Life of Kumud Ranjan Mallick
Kumud Ranjan Mallick was born to a Vaidya-Brahmin family, in Kogram village which is located in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal on 3rd March, 1883. In the year 1905, the poet completed his graduation from Scottish Church College which is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Soon, he was honoured with the Bankimchandra Gold Medal. He began his career in the field of teaching at the Mathrun High School in Burdwan, wherein he was promoted to the designation of a headmaster.

Works of Kumud Ranjan Mallick
The poems of Kumud Ranjan Mallick were immensely inspired by Vaishnavism and depict the natural beauty of rural West Bengal. Some of his most cherished poems include `Ujani`, `Nupur`, `Shatadal`, `Chunkali`, `Bithi`, `Ektara`, `Bantulsi`, `Kuheli`, `Swarna Sandhya`, `Banamallika`, `Tunir`, `Ajay` and several others. A popular music album named `Kumud Kabya Geeti` was released, which comprised numerous poems composed by this poet like `Latar Bedona`, `Ruper Lagi Jodi Aamre Bhalobasho`, `Ajayer Buke Saradin`, `Jhapsa Hoye Aaschhe Kromey` and many others. This music album hade been released by Gramophone Company of India. Some famous Bengali singers and music experts like Hemanta Mukherjee, Tarun Banerjee, Haimanti Shukla and Anup Ghoshal have lent their voices to several poems of Kumud Ranjan Mallick.

Awards received by Kumud Ranjan Mallick
Kumud Ranjan Mallick has received many accolades like Padma Shri award which was awarded by the Government of India in the year 1970 and Jagattarini Gold Medal of the University of Calcutta.

Kumud Ranjan Mallick died on 14th December, 1970.
