Prajapati Kratu, Son of Brahma

Kratu is one of the Prajapatis who were born directly from Lord Brahma.

The Vishnu Purana affirms that Kratu is one of the Prajapatis. He is one of the mind born sons of Lord Brahma.

Kratu is also said to be one of the Saptarshis (Seven sages or rishis). He is one of the seven glorious spirits who abide in the orb of the sun, scattering light throughout the universe. The names of the other rishis are Marichi, Atri, Angiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Vasishtha.

Kratu married Samnati, daughter of Daksha who brought forth sixty thousand Valikhilyas, the pigmy sages who were not bigger than a joint of the thumb.
