Kishanganj, both a city and municipality in the state of Bihar, India, is popular for its forest area.

Kishanganj, BiharKishanganj is a town nestled in the Kishanganj district in Purnea division of Bihar state of India. It is also the district headquarters of Kishanganj district. It is located in the north-eastern part of Bihar. It shares its borders with West Bengal on one side and Nepal on the other. It is often described as the corridor between northeast and the rest of the country. It is part of the chicken neck of Indian map and is located at 26°04`46"N 87°56`14"E.

On the basis of 2011 India census, it has a population of 107,076; of which male and female comprises of 55,688 and 51,388 respectively. The population of children in Kishanganj is 15.89%. The average literacy rate of Kishanganj is 74.71%; of which the male literacy features 79. 84% and female literacy shows 69.13%. In Kishanganj, majority of the people communicate in Surjapuri language. Hindi, Bengali, and Urdu are also used as a conversation medium.

Attractions of Kishanganj
Kishanganj is home to various places of tourist interest. The place shelters various rivers namely Mechi, Mahananda, and Kankai. It also houses various dense forests. The forest area of Kishanganj is mainly situated at Thakurganj and Terhagach. Thakuraganj is one of the blocks among seven blocks of the Kishanganj, having forest. Terhagach is the other block, having some forest area in Kishanganj District. Tea is another highlight of Kishanganj and it is the only tea producing place in Bihar.

Myriad picnic spots and beautiful parks are the other attractions of Kishanganj. Kargil Park, constructed in the honour of martyrs of Kargil War, draws an impressive number of tourists. Ruidhasa Maidan which is a historic ground and Khagra Mela which is an annual fair are equally popular among the people.

Connectivity of Kishanganj
Kishanganj is easily accessible by air, train and road. The Baghdogra airport is less than 2hrs drive from Kishanganj. Kishanganj houses one of the important railheads namely Kishanganj railway station which comes under Northeast Frontier Railway. The railhead is connected to major cities of India including New Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore, Chennai, Trivandrum etc. All the major trains including Rajdhani stop here. The NH 31 which is one of the important and busiest highways in India connects Kishanganj to all major routes.
