Kanwal Toor is a former Indian model, Bollywood actress and television personality. She participated in the Femina Miss India contest in 2001, and later went on to represent India in Miss International 2001. Kanwal is today a successful entrepreneur and social activist. She is the founder of CWC (Collective for Women & Children), which endeavours to raise funds for underprivileged women and children across the world.
Early Life and Education of Kanwal Toor
Born in the year 1980, Kanwal Toor studied statistical analysis and graduated in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College (JMC), affiliated to the University of Delhi, in New Delhi, India. She went on to pursue Masters in Industrial Psychology.
Career of Kanwal Toor
Kanwal Toor started out as a model, participating in the 2001 Femina Miss India beauty pageant. She later represented India in the Miss International 2001 pageant. She worked in the Media Industry, for several brands such as Vogue, Pepsi, Mercedes, LG, Gillette and Yamaha. She has modelled in photo shoots for different cover pages of national and international magazines.
Kanwal has also acted in television serials on major channels in India and has also appeared in music videos. She hosted the show "Filmi Fever", which aired on Zoom TV, and also presented the show "Out & About" on Zee TV (Europe). Kanwal Toor later made her feature film debut through the critically appraised Bollywood film "Cheeni Kum" in 2007, a romance film directed by R. Balki, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu and Paresh Rawal. She was seen playing the character of Shalini in the film. She also portrayed Menaka in the theatre project "Ae Ae Ae Phansaa", directed by Nasir Khan.
Kanwal Toor is today a successful entrepreneur in London, having founded the charitable organisation Collective for Women & Children (CWC), which endeavours to raise funds for underprivileged women and children across the world. Set up in July 2015, the CWC has energetically promoted its promoter"s cause of benefiting suffering women who are victims of sex exploitation and human trafficking in Mumbai, also to reduce and ultimately abolish the violence experienced by some women from India or Pakistan, who either move to, or marry in, the United Kingdom. Toor has also partnered with Apne Aap Women"s Collective in Kamathipur, to disseminate her fundraising efforts. In October 2015, the CWC organised a gala fundraising evening at the Kensington Hilton. 150 of London"s most prominent and best dressed British Indians were gathered to enjoy the company, auction and dinner. Business, political persons and sponsors combined to support the cause and raised a profit of £4,000 after merely three months of the CWC"s establishment. The same year, Kanwal Toor joined the Conservative Party, and has since worked hard for policies she believes in.
Personal Life of Kanwal Toor
Kanwal Toor tied the knot to Anumit Sodhi in August 2002, in Chandigarh, India, in a traditional Sikh wedding. The couple has a daughter named Sundari and a son named Kabir. Kanwal resides in London with her family.
