Kanraappur temple is an ancient holy site situated in the Tamil Nadu state of India. This ancient shrine, considered Shivastalam, is regarded as the 120th in the series of Tevara Stalams. The temple faces the east and has a 3-tiered Rajagopuram. The temple is known for its annual Bhrammotsavam which is held in the month of Vaikasi.
Location of Kanraappur Temple
It is located to the South of Tiruvarur, 9 km east of the Maavur road railhead. It is situated south of the River Kaveri. The temple occupies an area of about an acre and a half.
Legend of Kanraappur Temple
Legend has it that Lord Shiva accepted worship from a devout woman whose family objected to her religious faith. She used to tie calves in the cattle shed to a fixture; hence the name Kanraappu. Hidimba is said to have worshipped here.
