Kakatiya University was established on 19th August, 1976 to fulfil the ambitions of the people of Telangana for higher education. The founding of the Kakatiya University was in fact a historic event in the sense that heralded a new era in the realms of higher education of this new state in South India.

Location of Kakatiya University
Kakatiya University is located in the historical town of Warangal. The historical city of Warangal was the previously seat of the Kakatiya rulers. Warangal is important town in North Telangana region. The rapid growth of this university is due to strong foundation and vision of K. Venkata Ramiah, first Vice Chancellor of this university.

Courses of Kakatiya University
Kakatiya University offers several courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the faculties of arts, science, commerce and business management, social sciences, education, engineering and pharmaceutical sciences. Kakatiya University has 24 departments under these faculties: English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Telugu, Urdu, History, Economics, Political science, Public Administration and sociology. The faculty of science consists of Department of Bio Chemistry, Bio Technology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Informatics, Mathematics, Micro Biology, Physics, and Zoology. The faculty of engineering has following departments: Department of Examinations Civil Engineering, Department of CSE and Department of Mining Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Degree offered by Kakatiya University
Kakatiya University also offers doctorate degrees in various fields. The University introduced postgraduate courses in science for in service teachers and government employees for the first time in Andhra Pradesh. Recently the University has started Master degree programmes in Library and Information Science, Environmental Science, Psychology and Journalism and Mass Communication, diploma in mimicry and certificate course in communication skills in English. Kakatiya University is also offering several courses in distance learning mode.

Sports in Kakatiya University
Kakatiya University is also popular in Sports and Games at National Level Competitions. The students of Kakatiya University have displayed ideal presentation and won All India Inter-University Gymnastic Championship consecutively for three years, making a hat-trick. Kakatiya University has hosted the Inter-University National Youth Festival successfully. The social activities in Kakatiya University are under taken by the National Service Scheme and brought laurels to the University at the national level.

Foreign Tie ups with Kakatiya University
In an effort to give momentum to the educational, research and faculty exchange programmes with foreign universities, Kakatiya University has entered into MoU with Central Michigan University, USA in March 2006. Some more universities are evincing interest to tie up with the University for academic programmes.
