Kachis

The marvelous scenic beauty of Lakshadweep, kissed by the sea, continuously, is augmented by the resplendent costumes of the natives, and the Amini groups.

The kachi is a single piece of drapery, wrapped around the waist of the native women of Lakshadweep. Normally, the kachis, come in shades of absolute black and white, with black borders.

However, the patterns are , really ornate for Kachis made of silk. It is commonly, red in colour, brightened with contrasting shades of black at the borders.

Women don themselves in body-hugging, full-sleeved jackets, which serve as the upper garment. The front face of the jacket is decked with lace embroidery, furnished with gilt and glass bits.

Thus the dazzling Kachis are perfectly matched with equally attractive upper-garments. The impressive color sense and aesthetic spirit of the womenfolk of Lakshadweep is indeed praiseworthy.
