Jorepokhri is a tourist spot, which is situated near Darjeeling District of West Bengal. Jorpokhri is located at an altitude of 7,400 feet from the mean sea level. This place is mainly popular for its twin lakes. To be precise, Jorpokhri falls within the Senchal Forest area.
Etymology of Jorpokhri
The term "Jore" means two and "pokhri" stands for "pond." In totality, Jorpokhri is marked by two water tanks that provide natural and a beautiful view of Mt. Khanchenjungha from the place.
Location of Jorpokhri
Located near the India-Nepal border road from Ghum to Mirik, the place is 21 kilometers from Darjeeling, 13.5 kilometers from Ghum, 85 kilometers from Siliguri, 23 kilometers from Mirik and 5.5 kilometers from Lepchajagat.
Tourism in Jorpokhri
A wonderfully landscaped hilltop, Jorepokhri exhibits a view of Darjeeling and Kurseong on one side and the entire Kanchenjungha range on the other side. Sunrise is another attraction from here that provides the ultimate ecstasy to the tourists. The water tanks are the breeding areas for the endangered Himalayan Salamanders. During rainy season one may catch a glimpse of them.

Mirik and Lepchajagat are nearby and easily accessible from Jorpokhri. Other attractions are Sukhiapokhri (for the Sandakphu Trek), Kurseong, Simana (India-Nepal border), Senchal Forest area and the Tea Gardens all along.
Visiting Information to Jorpokhri
The best time to visit the place is from October to March. From New Jalpaiguri station a cab may be hired that takes around 3.5 hours to reach the place via Mirik. One can even take the Kurseong route but it takes longer than 4 hours and this route is not as scenic as the Mirik route. From Darjeeling, Jorpokhri is ideal for one day tour.
