An Indian field hockey player, Jaswant Rai participated at the 1952 Olympics held at Helsinki. He was included in the Indian National team and India won the gold medal.
In the 1952 Olympics at Helsinki, the Indian national hockey team played 3 games and managed to win all 3 matches through excellent display of game play by the team members. The team scored a total of 13 goals and got 2 goals against them. India played against Great Britain (3-1) and (Austria 4-0) and beat both the teams. In the final match, the Indian national hockey team competed against Holland. India beat Holland by a score of 6-1, and proudly won the gold medal for the fifth subsequent time.
The gold winning Olympic team consisted of the players like, Kunwar Digvijay Singh in the position of captain, Ranganathan Francis, Randhir Singh Gentle, Keshav Chandra Dutt, Jaswant Singh Rajput, Udham Singh, Grahanandan Singh, Leslie Claudius, Swarup Singh, Balbir Singh, Govind Perumal, Dharam Singh, Chinnadorai Deshmuthu, Muniswamy Rajagopal, G. S. Dubey Daluz and Jaswant Rai along with others.
