Indian Weddings during the British period involved only the necessary rituals, since the folks did not have to wealth for lavish arrangements. The ills of Indian agriculture were always reflected on the mass movement of the rural population as well as the cities during the British rule.

In most cases, the Indians during the British rule lived a life of suppression and ignorance. They did not enough of finance to give their children`s marriages in a pompous style. The rituals existed and feasts were arranged according to the status of the family. The marriages occurred within proper caste and community. The rural roots were often remembered on the occasion of a wedding in the family during which religious gathering requires that we go to our family Gods located in our ancestral villages, for getting the wedding or other ceremonies like thread ceremony, naming ceremony solemnized.

Thus the rural weddings in India during the British dynasty reflected the simple and religious tradition of the nation. The marriages had a humble essence, rural touch yet scope of merriment in every ritual.
