Hathni Kund is one of the most attractive tourist spots of Haryana. It is the origin of Western Yamuna Canal in Haryana. It has been built on a raised pedestal, which is overlooking the Yamuna River. After crossing over the last lap of the Himalayan foothills at Paonta Sahib near Himachal Pradesh, the Yamuna River enters the plains of Haryana.
As Hathni Kund is near the town of Yamuna Nagar, so with a short drive from Yamuna Nagar one can easily enter into the beautiful Sal Forest Reserve of Kalesar which leads to the picturesque sight of Hathni Kund. It has been developed as a major tourist centre by the Haryana tourism. At a distance, there stand the foothills of Himalayas which adds to the scenic beauty of the place.
Besides this, Hathni Kund has been considered as a picturesque sight which attracts a large variety of migratory birds. Birds like Tree Pie, Drongo, Hornbills, Blue Peafowl and Patridges are often found in this area, which are appreciated by the tourists. Another major attraction of this place is the Tejawala barrage that is located at a distance of 5 kms from Hathni Kund. Earlier, the Tajewala Barrage collected the water for Western Yamuna Canal, but now the process is done by the new Hathni Kund Barrage, which was constructed between 1996 and1999.

Hathni Kund has been a major attraction for the adventurous rafters who assemble at the tourist spot in the summer season. As the river is huge and full of water, this creates some kind of intensity in the river flow which is best suited for arranging water sports. Surrounded by green lawns and forest reserve of Kalesar, this place is also considered as an ideal place for camping and trekking in the Kalesar forests.
