Hamd is a particular from of Urdu poetry which is sung in praise of Allah. Usually, a Hamd is written in languages like Arabic language, Persian languages, Punjabi languages, or Urdu languages. The very word "Hamd" has been derived from the Holy Quran" which Islamic people believe to be the word of Allah, its English translation is "Praise".
Hamds are recited and sung all over the Islamic world, from Morocco to Indonesia. A performance of Qawwali mainly includes at least one Hamd that is conventionally the first song in the performance.
Some popular and well-known hamd singers are Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sabri Brothers, and Qari Waheed Zafar.
Modern English language singers of hamd include Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens), Sami Yusuf and Nusrullah Khan Noori.
