Gwaldam is a small town located on the borders of Kumaon Hills and Garhwal Hills in the state of Uttarakhand. It is located amidst apple orchards and green woods and perched at an altitude of 1629 meters. It is situated at a distance of 40 km from Kausani and offers beautiful and fascinating view of Himalayan peaks like; Nanda Devi (7817 mt), Trishul Mountain (7120 mt) and Nanda Ghuti (6309 mt). Gwaldam is situated 22 km beyond Baijnath. The highway that goes straight to Bageshwar District then branches off to a fantastic and fascinating route through the middle of pine forests against the background of Himalayan Mountains. From Gwaldam, the road actually traces its way through the thick forests and terraced fields that are dotted with resorts and cottages of Tharali and Narain Bagar up to the Ranikhet-Pandukholi road at a place called Simli, which is 8 km short of Karnaprayag. This place offers beautiful options to tourists and can be visited any time of the year.
Gwaldam happens to be the starting point of some of the exciting and interesting trekking routes in the Himalayas and is also the base for Roop Kund.
