Gurramkonda Fort

The Gurramkonda Fort is considered to be one of the oldest forts in the Chittoor district.

History of Gurramkonda Fort
The Gurramkonda Fort was built during the Vijayanagara Empire around 1714 CE. It was during the reign of Abdul Nabi Khan, the Nawab of Kadapa. The fort was under the control of the Nawab, who was also the governor of Bijapur Sultanate. The "Rangeen Mahal" inside the fort was constructed by the Nawab of Kadapa as his office. Originally a mud and rock construction, the Gurramkonda Fort was taken over by the Marathas, Tipu Sultan and was later under the rule of British.

Even today after over 300 years, the Gurramkonda Fort is still a major tourist attraction. Other than the Rangeen Mahal, few of the other attractions in and around the fort are the tomb of Mir Raza Ali Khan"s, the Syed Shah Kirmani Dargah, the Syed and the Ananta Padmanabha Temple.

The Chittoor railway station is the nearest at a distance of 108 km from the fort and the Tirupati International Airport is the closest at a distance of 126 km from the Gurramkonda Fort.
