Godchinamalaki Falls is one of the tourist attractions of Karnataka state of India. It is located on the Markandeya River in Belgaum district, Gokak Taluk, Karnataka. The waterfall is approximately 15 km away from Gokak and 40 km from Belgaum. Also called Markandeya falls, this waterfall is well known amongst the nature lovers and photographers for its beauty. This waterfall also has numerous nearby attractions that are worth visiting.
Geography of Godchinamalaki Falls
The waterfall is nestled in a deep rugged green valley. It is a combination of two falls. One falls from a height of 25 meters into a rocky valley and the other falls from a height of 18 meters at some distance from this rocky valley. This is a wonderful place to spend some quality time with family, friends and loved ones. The waterfall is enveloped by lush greenery. The ideal time to explore Godchinamalaki falls is between the months from June to September.
Tourism at Godchinamalaki Falls
There are various nearby attractions of Godchinamalaki Falls including Gokak Fall, Varapoha falls, Rakaskop and Kapileshwara Temple. Gokak Fall is situated at a distance of 10 km from Godchinamalaki falls. It is here that two rivers join namely Markandeya and Ghataprabha River. Born out of the long leap of Ghataprabha River, it is also called as mini Niagara. Varapoha falls is located in Jamoti which is at a distance of 18 km from Khanapur. It is popular amongst nature lovers, botanists, and photographers. Rakaskop is the range of caves that are made up of laterite rocks. Located on the hilltop, these caves are carved in the form of a big human figure in sitting position. Kapileshwara temple is an ancient holy site that contains shrines of Lord Hanuman, Sai Baba, Ganesha and also a "mandir" of Navgraha.
Route to Godchinamalaki Falls
The waterfall can be approached from Godachinamalaki village by walking and also by availing vehicle services through an irregular forest route for about 2 kilometers. There are two routes to reach the waterfall from Godachinamalki. One route is via Malebail road by crossing the bridge at godachinamalki and another one is via Gurusiddeshwar Temple. One can also reach the waterfall from Nirvaneshwara Matha near Yogikolla, however only on foot.
