GOD TV is the Jerusalem-based 24-hours, Christian TV channel that set up office in Chennai two years ago. In Asia, GOD TV is available in India via cable in over 30 million homes and in Hong Kong more than two million people can tune in. the channel presents world class anointed Christian content to over 200 nations broadcasting from the heart of Jerusalem. GOD TV is known for its bold presentation of gospel that promotes positive thinking and eternal life through Jesus. Founded by a young couple Rory and Wendy Alec, GOD TV is known for its balanced programming that caters to all age groups and brings out media- savvy approach to faith-based television and aims to challenge and inspire today`s viewers in an innovative, exciting way, which is relevant to the now generation.
GOD TV reaches the countries of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria. GOD TV has an office in Germany that broadcasts to Scandinavia. In Africa the head office is in Cape Town. They reach Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria by two satellites. Uganda Terrestrial is airing GOD TV six hours a day. Since 2003 GOD TV has been broadcasting in India. It is headquartered in Chennai and reaches 15.5 million homes. The channel describes itself as "teaching the Torah and the true roots of Christianity", and its programming features a mixture of Christian and Jewish teachers.
This channel does not consider advertisements and TRPs as the benchmark of their popularity. They gauge their popularity from the increasing number of viewer responses from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad, and the northeast. Most of their revenue is generated through donations and airtime. They do not encourage commercial advertisements but prefer events, charity and educational ads. Their channels are promoted through churches. In today`s world, which is full of pain, GOD channel brings hope by encouraging the viewers to pray and await the best from God. The channel also did a five day long survey and found out that GOD channel has failed to capture the hearts of TV viewers in the Christian state of Mizoram. The survey found that found that only a very small percent of the city`s population watch GOD channel. Few people watch GOD channel`s Sunday morning programme, `700 Club`. In most cases, GOD channel catches viewer`s eyes only when they come across it while surfing channels. In the Northeast India, GOD channel has gained popularity in Shillong and Kohima. GOD channel has more viewers in Guwahati than in Aizawl. However, the programme is telecast in Assamese in Guwahati, which may have something to do with the large number of viewers. It still remains that despite the state religion of Christianity, no one has bothered to translate the happenings on GOD channel while every trouble has been taken to popularize the Hindi serial.
