The district of Hyderabad, with the capital Hyderabad is situated on the Deccan plateau. Hyderabad District lies at an altitude of 217 square kilometres. It is occupying an area of 217 square kilometres.

The most of the area in Hyderabad District has a rocky topography and some areas are hilly. The crops are commonly grown in the surrounding paddy fields. Hyderabad is the 5th largest city in India.

Hyderavbad District has twin cities like Hyderabad and Secunderabad with its suburbs extending upto 16 miles. The highest point in the city is Banjara Hills. The contour level falls gradually from west to east creating almost a through near the Musi River which runs through the city. This natural feature has facilitated water supply by gravity.

The climate of Hyderabad remains fairly warm through most parts of the year and do not receive much rainfall in the monsoon. With the onset of winters in North and central parts of India, temperatures marginally come down in the months of December and January and the nights become quite cool in and around the Hyderabad city. During the summer months, the mercury goes as high as 42 degree Celsius while in winters the minimum temperature may come down to as low as 12 degree Celsius. June to November are the months of monsoons, accompanied by rains. During the Monsoons also the temperature goes down at times. Thus, for most parts of the year the weather and climate of Hyderabad remains fairly moderate the city mat be visited anytime in the year but the best season to visit Hyderabad is between October-February.

Flora and Fauna of Hyderabad District
The lakes of Hyderabad and the sloping terrain of its low-lying hills offer locale for an assortment of plant, bird, reptile and other animal species. The forest region in and around the city encompasses areas of ecological and biological importance. These birds and the animals are preserved in the form of national parks, zoos, mini-zoos and a wildlife sanctuary. Nehru Zoological Park is the first in India having the lions and tigers safari park. Hyderabad has three national parks. These are the Mrugavani National Park, Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park and Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park, and the Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary. Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary is about 50 kilometerds from the city of Hyderabad. Other environmental reserves are Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy Botanical Gardens, Shamirpet Lake, Hussain Sagar Lake, Fox Sagar Lake, Mir Alam Tank and Patancheru Lake, which is home to regional birds and attracts seasonal migratory birds from different parts of the world.

Hyderabad District is connected to the rest of the country by National Highways-NH-7, NH-9 and NH-202. Hyderabad is also well connected to the remaining parts of the state.
