Gaurav Gera illustrated the character of Nandu in the hugely popular Sony show `Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin`. This actor when interviewed recently claimed that the first time he got on stage to participate in a debate, his tongue freezed to death. But this was not the beginning destiny has made for him. In fact he made up his mind at a very tender age that he would be a part of the glamour world. He hails from a family, which has got nothing to do with the film industry.
The popular Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor was also a relative too distant to be claimed. But still then with high hopes and iron determination he planned to make it big in the acting industry. He completed his studies armed with a degree in fashion and also worked for sometime without any interest in designing and sporting fashionable attires. But a trip to Mumbai had been the major turning point in his career and he decided to make the tinsel town his base for the future.
After he went back to the capital of the Indian subcontinent Gaurav Gera joined a theater group in Delhi. His parents did not approve the fact that he would be choosing acting as his profession. There was one point of time when he stopped himself from meeting his near and dear ones because all would ask about his career plans. He then began pursuing his usual career in the daytime while he started rehearsing for English plays in the evening. He infact started taking himself very seriously as a performer and took a plunge into many musicals, which were produced, in the capital including a version of Westside Story.
It is this phase in his life, which he claims as the `craziest phase`. Ultimately after sometime he landed up in the tinsel town and continued dancing for musicals like `The Man of La Mancha` and many of the live shows of Suneeta Rao. Soon after he was showered in with offers of many ad campaigns including the big names like Nestle Munch and Fair & Lovely.
Following that he essayed a character in the sitcom `Life Nehi Hain Laddoo` and the character was almost similar to that of Nandu. After this he also acted in another comedy called `Love Mein Kabhi Kabhi` which was pulled off air after broadcasting five episodes.
The major turning point of the career of Gaurav Gera came in his life when he offered to play the role of Nandu in one of the most popular Indian Television dailies `Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin`. In the initial stages he thought that the producers of the show were making fun of him but he realized the significance of his character when he landed up on the sets. In fact playing this character was the most happening part of his life. It not only made him a household name but also proved his mettle in the art of acting.
According to him the best thing about his character is his child-like cuteness. His off-screen chemistry with all the actors is amazing and he shares a warm equation with all of them. This great actor also marked his entry into the Bollywood Film Industry with the Vivek Oberoi and Amitabh Bachhan starrer `Kyun Ho Gaya Na`. In this film he played a friend of Vivek. Though the role was brief it was significant enough. About his acting potential he says that "I know I am not a `dude` or a dashingly handsome guy. But give me a good character role and I know how I can make a mark". In the matter of working in both the mediums he claims that it is fun working in the television, as one has to be very active whereas in the medium of films one has a very laid-back attitude.
In the recent times he has also picked up another interesting project, which is a replica of the show called `Saturday Night Live` which was immensely popular in the United States. Gaurav Gera is sure to go a long way in his acting career and would definitely one of the most sought-after actors in the industry.
