Ganesh Venkatraman is an Indian film actor who has appeared in films of 6 different Indian regional cinemas. He rose to fame following his performance in Radha Mohan`s 2008 Tamil comedy drama "Abhiyum Naanum", before garnering critical acclaim for his work in Tamil movie "Unnaipol Oruvan" (2009) and Kannada film "Kandahar" (2010).

Born on March 20, 1980 in Mumbai, India, Ganesh Venkatraman began his acting career by appearing in television soaps "Antariksh" and "Mayavi", the latter being the first 3D serial on Tamil television. He made his foray into films with debut film "The Angrez", an experimental crossover film shot in Hyderabadi Urdu language, but could not gather any further film offers immediately. Subsequently, he made his debut in the Tamil film industry with Radha Mohan`s family drama "Abhiyum Naanum", released in 2008, alongside its producer Prakash Raj, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya. Ganesh had successfully auditioned for the role in Mumbai, by turning up dressed as the Sikh character in the film, prompting the makers to believe that he was actually a Punjabi. Portraying the Punjabi fiancé of Trisha"s character, Ganesh"s performance received critical acclaim with the film too performing well at the box office.

After working with Prakash Raj in this second film of his career, Ganesh got several further offers of appearing in supporting roles in films starring veteran actors. He played the role of police officer Arif Khan, alongside Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in the Tamil remake of acclaimed Hindi drama thriller "A Wednesday!" titled "Unnaipol Oruvan", which was also made in Telugu entitled "Eeenadu", with Venkatesh playing Mohanlal"s role. Ganesh"s performance earned critical appraisal and he was next seen portraying an army general in Major Ravi`s Kannada war film "Kandahar", where he appeared alongside Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan, again receiving positive critical response for his role. He had also shot and completed a thriller film titled "Muriyadi" with Sathyaraj, but the film failed to have a theatrical release owing to Kavithalayaa Productions` financial upheavals. During the period, Ganesh also opted out of another multi-starrer film "Mankatha" (2011), instead choosing to work on another bilingual Tamil and Hindi project "Panithuli", in a solo lead role. Shot entirely in the United States, the film released in 2012 to negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office. He also appeared with another veteran actor Nagarjuna in "Damarukam" (2012), which became his first straight Telugu film.

In 2013, Ganesh worked on three projects, prioritising his work on Tamil cinema. He appeared in Sundar C`s bilingual film, "Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru" and "Something Something" in Tamil and Telugu respectively, in the supporting role of office worker George. He was seen as a police officer again in the Tamil action film "Ivan Veramathiri" and also portrayed the role of a prince in Roopa Iyer`s Kannada and Tamil bilingual film "Chandra", also revealing that he signed up for the role after hearing that Shriya Saran would be portraying the lead. Ganesh subsequently worked on a few low budget films, the psychological thriller "Achaaram" and the drama "Pallikoodam Pogamale", both of which had low key theatrical releases in 2015, while also appearing in the unnoticed Bollywood thriller "Tum Ho Yaara" in 2014. In 2015, he also played a supporting role in Mohan Raja`s action thriller "Thani Oruvan", which went on to become a blockbuster at the box office. He is next to be seen in Tamil-Telugu bilingual horror film "Nayaki" and romantic thriller "Thodari", starring Dhanush.

Prior to acting, Ganesh Venkatraman was a successful model and had been a winner of Gladrags Mr. India 2003, and been a representative for India in Mr. World 2004.
