The fort of Ladnun, an architectural beauty of the Muslim period, is located in the Rajasthan state of India. The fort has been constructed on the western side of the town. The fort, although a miniature edifice, has been able to draw the attention of several tourists.
Architecture of Fort of Ladnun
The building is spread over a huge area. The walls and the gates of the town are in ruined state but the fort still stands erect with ramparts above the ground level. The round bastions with battered walls extend further support to the fort.
Fort of Ladnun has been built prior to the period of the Khans. An inscription engraved on the fort states that the gate and parts of the walls had been rebuilt during the reign of Firoz Khan II. Later again, the upper parts of the walls and the fort had been reconstructed. The walls and gates of the fort had been built with used materials of ancient Jain temples. Few of the stone blocks are still adorned with images from primeval period.
The main gate is the single archway situated at the eastern side of the fort. It directs its way to an area which is presently occupied by palatial buildings that date back to the Mughal periods. The Ladnun buildings epitomize the architectural grandeur of the Muslim period. The charm and the minute architectural details speak of the striking craftsmanship of that period. Most of the structures are presently in damaged state and others have been divided into tenement and are with time crumbling down. An inscription has been inscribed within a niche on the exterior portion of the eastern gate. According to it, the building of the residential palace, the fortifies walls and the gates of the town of Ladnun had been rebuilt by the fifth of Du Chinar Malik-i-Malik, Malik Ibrahim Jamta Kashlu Khani during the reign of Majlis-i-Ali Firoz Khan bin Salah Khan bin Mujahid Khan bin Shams Khan Nagauri.
The Fort of Ladnun, thus, upholds the architectural grandeur of the Muslim era and can be asserted as a monument of great historical significance.
