Fireflies Festival of Sacred Music is an annual music festival held at the Fireflies Ashram of Kanakapura road, Bengaluru. Previously known as Bhoomi Jatre, this festival is the center of attraction to all the aspirants who are singing mostly the folk songs.
The stage of Fireflies Festival of Sacred Music, as always, is set under a banyan tree in an open air auditorium. This music festival is held adjacent to a lake and away from the sodium trail of the city of Bengaluru. Here, through music the musical madness is celebrated the relationship of oneness between man and earth. This forms the bedrock of the festival ethos. Fireflies Festival of Sacred Music is also a celebration of the pluralism of Indian culture and traditional genres of musical arenas. The festival, from dusk to dawn, is a cultural experience where on offer is a sound of various genres Taking care to juxtapose the indigenous with the international, the established with the unheard of and jazz with tribal folk.
The theme of the Fireflies Festival of Sacred Music in first year was "Peace in Iraq", the second year the need to conserve water, the third year "Protect and grow more trees", and the fourth year "The inner journey and the outer journey".
Fireflies Festival of Sacred Music covers a wide range of musical genres including Hindustani and Carnatic vocal and instrumental, baul, fusion, western jazz, folk, alternative music, and many experimental and innovative genres.
