Most important crops cultivated in this region are Rice, Wheat, Yellow Peas, Grams, Sorghum (Jowar), Oilseeds, Tobacco, Cotton, Groundnut, and Sugarcane. The district has enormous reserves of Dolomite and Fluorspar. Manufacturing plants of a number of private industry players, as well as Public Sector Units (PSUs) such as Gujarat Alkalis and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and Gujarat State Fertilisers Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) are located here.

Vadodara district is the leading producer of pulses in Gujarat, contributing 14.7 percent to the overall production. Vadodara is among the most important fruit producing districts in the State, contributing 11.25 percent to the total fruit production. The district is a chief cultivator of flowers in the State. The district is among the highest contributors to the overall production of banana in Gujarat. It is the largest producer of Brinjal in the State, contributing 12.6 percent to total production. Vadodara is one of the four districts in Gujarat which produces cashew nuts.

Mineral reserves in the district consist of dolomite, black trap, quartz, fluoride, gravel, marble, fluorspar, agate, graphite, manganese ore, and granite. Dolomite and fluorspar occur only in Vadodara. The district accounts for as much as 98 percent of the overall production of dolomite in Gujarat. There are more than 18,000 SSI units in Vadodara, the maximum being in the repairing and servicing industry. Other key small scale industries include chemicals, equipments, textiles, metal works, rubber products and food products.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor passes through Vadodara, making it a key destination for attracting industrial investments. Vadodara is the exclusive producer of Dolomite and Fluorspar in Gujarat, offering scope for remarkable expansion in the processing industries. A number of Government companies such as GSFC and GACL have their manufacturing plants in the district. Gujarat`s leading educational institutions are situated in Vadodara, which offers skilled and intellectual manpower in large quantity for diverse industries and R&D activities. Proximity of Vadodara to key industrial centers of Gujarat such as Ahmedabad (via India`s first Expressway), Bharuch and Surat, along NH8 could be considered a chief driver for growth of the financial system.
