Dwarhatta is one of the lost prides of West Bengal. It is because; Dwarhatta is concentrated with the ancient temples that were built mostly in the early phase of medieval period.
The ancient terracotta temples of Dwarhatta are guarded by green thickets. The thick evergreen trees make Dwarhatta peaceful and serene. Dwarhatta is located at about 41 km from Kolkata. Dwarhatta is one of the early villages in Haripal of Hooghly District of West Bengal. The terracotta temples, simple and neat tribal huts make Dwarhatta one of the most beautifully natural decorated villages of rural West Bengal.
The major attractions of Dwarhatta are its terracotta temples. The temples of Lord Vishnu and three temples of Lord Shiva constructed by Singha Rai family, the earlier zamindars of Dwarhatta, are the most popular sights of Dwarhatta. One of the three temples is Rajrajeswari-Shiva terracotta temple was constructed by Pannalal Singha Rai, one of the zamindar of Singha Rai Family. The walls of this terracotta temple are adorned with scenes from Indian Epics like Ramayana and the chronicles of Radha- Lord Krishna leela.
The temples of Lord Shiva are in ominous condition. They are being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India, who has acknowledged this as a heritage site. There is the temple of Dwarika Chandi, where a large fair and puja is organized every year.
Dwarhata can be reached by availing the places from Kolkata, Howrah and the other adjacent districts of West Bengal. The train and the buses can easily avail from the districts. The best time to visit the place is in winter season and autumn season.
