Drukpa Tse Shi is one of the most important festivals of Sikkim. Drukpa Tse Shi marks the day on which Lord Buddha gave his first teaching on Four Noble Truths to his first five disciples at Sarnath and therefore turning the wheel of Dharma. The festival is held on the 4th day of the 6th month of the Buddhist Tibetan calendar. The day also marks a holy season for the Buddhists. It is one of the main festivals celebrated throughout the state of Sikkim.
Celebration of Drukpa Tse Shi
On this day prayers are offered in the main monasteries of the state. In Gangtok, Drukpa Tse Shi is marked by prayers at the Deer Park. In Muguthang in extreme North Sikkim, the festival is celebrated by holding a Yak race. People on this day pray for good health and wealth.
