Doraha is a small city in the Ludhiana district of Punjab. It has a municipal council. It lies 20 km. east of Ludhiana. The place is well connected to other places in the state. Doraha has its own railway station and Ludhiana airport is the nearest airport. It is believed that it is in this village that Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru halted here for a night during his journey from the Gwalior fort.
According to the 2001 census report, Doraha has a population of 18,975 inhabitants. Males constitute 56% of the population and females constitute 44% of the population. 12% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Doraha is 71%, which is higher than the national standard of 59.5%. The literacy rate of male is 74% and the female literacy rate is 66%.
This city is famous because of its religious connections. Gurdwara Damdama Sahib Patshahi Chhevin is the main attraction of this city. Constructed back in the year 1932, this memorial is well equipped with a rectangular flat roofed hall. Doraha Sarai, a historical monument, is another attraction. The stunning Doraha Canal located in the Doraha town is worth visiting.
