Dhanur Veda, Science Of Archery taught by BhriguDhanur Veda derives its name from the words for bow and knowledge. It was applied later in general to martial arts. Dhanurveda is the science of fighting and war. Weapons like bows and arrows are to be used if absolutely necessary when other peaceful methods have failed. This Veda was revealed by the Lord to Sages Vishwamitra and Bhrigu. They are considered as its original teachers. Other famous Dhanur Veda teachers are Parashurama and Drona who are prominent characters in epics like Mahabharata. Dhanurveda is also regarded as the origins of Vajramushti which is a martial art. Many Vedic martial arts have been derived from Dhanurveda are Thang-ta of Manipur and Kalaripayattu of Kerala.
