Dera Bassi is a small city in Patiala district ideally located at the Northern state of India, Punjab. The Municipal Council of Dera Bassi looks after the local administration. Dera Bassi is well connected to Chandigarh by road. The nearest railway station is the Chandigarh Railway Station and the nearest airport is the Chandigarh Airport.
According to the 2001 census report, Dera Bassi had a population of 15,690 inhabitants. Males constitute 54% of the population whereas the females constitute 46% of the population. In Dera Bassi, 13% of the population is less than six years of age. The city has an average literacy rate of 76%, which is higher than the national literacy standard, which is 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 80% while the female literacy rate is 72%. A number of engineering institutes are situated here.
