Dasghara is an excellent place for exploring the historical heritage of India, which is situated in Hooghly district of West Bengal. It is a small village, which is located at a distance of 12 km from Tarakeswar. Dasghara houses the ruins of the historical structures. The ancientness of the village dates back to the 18th century.
Tourism in Dasghara
The prime tourist attraction of the place is a temple constructed in the Mughal period with magnificent terracotta decorations. The site is further adorned with beautiful colonial garden and enchanting marble statues. The second largest Rath of Hooghly is also located in this village.
Gopinath Temple is the most ancient structure of Dasghara, which was built by Sadananda Biswas, a local Zamindar. The temple comprises of five spires and terracotta panels which are still intact and beautiful. These panels depict scenes from performances of the musicians, a grand court, Ramayana and activities of daily life. This artistic specimen is unique and highly admirable not only in the village but also in the whole state of West Bengal. Another attractive structure in the temple complex is an octagonal shaped Rasmancha embellished with narrow pillars, 9 spires and a Dolmancha of square shape. Near the temple, other tourist attractions include an ancient Durga Dalan and the houses of renowned Biswas family. These sites are the exemplary of the glory that prevailed in this region in ancient times.
Dasghara also houses an arched gateway and a clock tower which are enlisted among the architectural masterpieces. These were built by Bipin Krishna Roy, who was a famous businessman of this region. In course of time, however, the hands of the clock have stopped working. The mansion of Bipin Krishna is also worth a visit. He also owns the credit of establishing a Lord Shiva temple in Dasghara. Among nearby attractions, Tarakeswar is mostly visited by the tourists while traveling in Dasghara.
Visiting Information to Dasghara
Any time of the year is ideal for visiting this historical place. Direct trains to Dasghara are available from Howrah station. Regular buses are departed from Tarakeswar to reach Dasghara. Dasghara is about 70 km from Kolkata, so one can reach Dasghara by National Highway 6 via Dhaniakhali Connector.
