The Beach is located at a distance of forty kilometres from Chennai and is famous for its serene and tranquil ambience.

It is a fishing village in Chennai which is 40 kilometres south of Chennai, situated on the East Coast Road en route to Mahabalipuram.

History of Covelong Beach
Covelong Beach, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Beaches of IndiaCovelong Beach was a major port in the 16th century. Covelong was a port town developed by the Nawab of Carnatic, Saadat Ali. It was taken over by the French in 1746 and demolished by the British in 1752. The Dutch built a fort in Covelong in the colonial times, which today has been made the Taj Fisherman`s cove.

Attractions of Covelong Beach
Covelong Beach is the chief hub of fishing activity. Covelong beach is one of the few places in the East Coast where wind surfing takes place. There is a surf school with resort in the beach. This beach is also well-known for its calm environment and of course its water sports. The beach has a very old Catholic Church and mosque bounding it. Just a few steps down the church, is a mosque. The gorgeous Shore Temple and the Crocodile Farm here are one of India"s most well known tourist spots. There is a small fishing village close to the beach. Their boats and nets can also be seen on the beach.

Visiting information of Covelong Beach
Covelong Beach is simply reachable by Old Mahabalipuram Road and East Coast Road from Chennai. Apart from this, the beach can also be accessed by boat, along with the coast of Chennai or Chengalpattu.
