Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary derives its name from local village Chaprala. Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary covers at about 134.83 square kilometres area. The northern, eastern and southern borders of Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary lie adjacent to Pedigundam range of Allapalli forest division, whereas western border is formed by the perennial Pranhita River.
Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary is located partly in Mulchera Tehasil and Chamorshi Tehasil of Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra.
The administration and management of Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary is under supervision and control of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve head quarter at Chandrapur.
Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary has the rich vegetation diversity. There are about 245 species. Out of which 69 tree, 15 shrub, 73 herb, 47 grass and 41 climber species have been identified in Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary.
The area of Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary was the place of hunting in royal times. Now the Royal Bengal Tiger and the leopard are rarely seen along the fringe of the sanctuary. The abundance of herbivores like Sambhar, Chital, blackbuck, Blue bull continues to provide broad prey base. Some of the carnivores like wild dogs, wild boars languor`s and mongoose are also common in the area. This sanctuary is rich in avian fauna especially of aquatic and migratory types.
