Channarayapatna is a town located in the Hassan district of the southern state of Karnataka

Channarayapattana, Hassan, KarnatakaChannarayapatna is a town located in the Hassan district of the southern state of Karnataka. It is located on the Mangalooru -Bangalooru National Highway 48(NH48) at about 150 Km from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. Channarayapatna is near the famous Jain pilgrimage center Shravanabelagola.

The name Channarayapatna is derived from the name of the local chieftain Channigaraya who ruled this region in the 19th century.

Channarayapatna is located at 12.90° N 76.39° E at a height of 827 metres (2716 feet). According to the 2001 census Channarayapatna is inhabited by 33,240 people.Males constiute 51% of the population while females constitute 49% of the population .The town has an average literacy rate of 73% which is much higher than the average literacy rate which is 59.5%.Male literacy rate is 78% while female literacy rate 68% .11% of the population is under six years of age.

Among the temples in the town ,the most popular one is Chandramouleshwara temple.The temple is actually inside a fort and there is a deity of a standing Shiva.The Gadederameshwara and Olegeramma are the other popular temples of the town In the Olegeramma temple a carnival is held every year in the month of November.Nuggehally that was built during the reign of the Hoysala rulers is a Laxminarayana temple .Shravanabelagola is a famous statue on top of the hill.
