With a population of about 55,477 and the literacy rate of 81%, which is higher than the national standard of about 59.5% according to 2001, census Chandkheda is a city and municipality in Gandhinagar district in Gujarat. Males constitute 53% of the population while female comprises of 47%. 11% of the population is under six years of age.The male literacy rate is 85% and female literacy rate is 77%.
The village Chandkheda at a stone`s throw distance is a very old village .The occupation of the people of the villagefolk is mainly farming and cattle rearing .It is never affected by floods since it is not a low lying area . It has a post office, several banks, schools, and a railway station (narrow gauge). A famous temple (Kaanch ka Mandir) is also situated in this village.
The area has developed mainly because the office of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) situated nearby and is the residence of many officers of ONGC. The ONGC colony is well developed and has a club, a Kendriya Vidyalaya School, a dispensary and a stadium in addition to other facilities.Other than this ,there are many housing societies in the area .The CG(Chandkheda-Gandhinagar )road which is newly developed is a very posh residential area.There are several schools and educational institutes and the area is proud of its Government Engineering College.The city plans to have a IT park in the near future.
