Capapati Mudaliar

Capapati Mudaliar was considered amongst the leading Tamil poets who lived in the 19th century. He has composed works on catakams, antati, kuravanci, kalampakam, talapuranam etc.

Capapati Mudaliar, also known as Astavatanam Capapati Mudaliar or Astavatanam Sapapathi Mutaliar was a well known and much admired poet and scholar from the Tamil country who lived in the 19th century. He was considered amongst the most prominent and leading Tamil poets during that period and composed several literary works in Tamil language which includes numerous poems, hymns and prose as well. Some of the most distinguished poetical works composed by Capapati Mudaliar or Astavatanam Sapapathi Mutaliar includes catakams, antati, kuravanci, kalampakam, talapuranam and many others.

Capapati Mudaliar was mainly popular and was noted for composing verses in a unique rhythmic manner that enthralled the hearts of the people. Capapati Mudaliar had authored almost thirty three poetical works in Tamil. Many of the poets and authors that followed him adopted his style of composing rhythmic verses. The renowned poet had several disciples who studied under his guidance and acquired poetic wisdom that assisted in becoming scholars and authors themselves and contribute largely to Tamil literature and Tamil language.

Although Capapati Mudaliar was a celebrated poet and author of Tamil Nadu, his poetic and literary creation are no longer studied by the people at the present era.
