Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the beautiful Darrang District of Assam. It covers an area of 26.22 sq. km. It received the status of a sanctuary in the year 1980 by the Government of Assam. Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the foothills of Himalayas bordering Bhutan in the north. It serves as a safe haven for endangered species like Hispid Hare and Pigmy Hog. The Sanctuary was constituted especially for the protection and conservation of Hispid Hare and Pigmy Hog.
Flora and Fauna of Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary
Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary houses a variety of animals and birds. The main attractions of this sanctuary are Elephant, Gaur, Tiger, Leopard, Small Indian Civet, Jungle Cat, Chinese Pangolin, Porcupine, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Pigmy Hog, Wild Pig, Hispid Hare, Capped Langur, Bison, Pangolin, Tiger, Asiatic Elephant and others.
Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary also provides shelter to many birds like Peafowl, Hornbill, Swamp partridge, Bengal florican, Kingfisher, Peacocks, Bengal Florican, Woodpecker and others. Tourists can enjoy the sight of both migratory and local birds.
Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary at Assam is well connected through the National Highway No. 52 and located 70 km from Mangaldai and 130 km from Guwahati. Regular public buses and vehicles run from from Guwahati, or Mangaldai, which would take the tourists to the sanctuary. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the months of November to April.
