Shamita is the younger sister of popular Bollywood actrees Shilpa Shetty. She was born on February 2nd, 1979 to Surendra and Sunanda Shetty. Shamita Shetty completed her schooling from St Anthony`s Girls High School in Chembur, Mumbai. After finishing her school, she joined Sydenham College to pursue her graduation. Her native language is Tulu; however, she is well versed in both English and Hindi as well.

Career of Shamita Shetty
Shamita Shetty started her acting career with the Aditya Chopra directed hit movie Mohabbatein under the Yash Raj Banner in the year 2000. It was a multi-starrer movie with superstars like Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya in the lead. After the major box-office success of the movie, Shamita Shetty found her success in item songs in different movies, the most popular hit being Sharara Sharara in the movie Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in the year 2001 and Chori Pe Chori in Saathiya in the year 2002. Her first major box-office hit as a lead actress came with the movie Zeher along with Emran Hashmi in 2005 where she portrayed the character of a police officer. Her work was well appreciated in the movie. She also worked with her elder sister Shilpa Shetty in the movie Fareb along with Manoj Bajpai. Although the movie Cash that was released in 2007 did not do well at the box-office, Shamita`s role was well appreciated. Shamita Shetty played the character of Shania who was appointed as the Head of Security to protect a set of diamonds.

Apart from Bollywood movies Shamita Shetty has also acted in a Tamil movie, Rajjiyam in 2002 and in a Telugu movie Piliste Palakutha in 2003. She was a contestant in the Indian reality show Big Boss. Besides her acting skills, she is also well equipped with the technical and other intricate details in fashion designing.

Shamita Shetty has yet to establish a strong foothold in the Bollywood film industry like her elder sister Shilpa. However, on June 14th 2011, she declared her retirement from acting to commence a career in interior design.
