Bird Sanctuary of MeghalayaThe state of Meghalaya is located in the north eastern part of India. The geographical terrain of this state is characterized by highlands, rivers, waterfalls and forests. These, along with a variety of flora and fauna, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, sacred groves, caves, etc have not only beautified this state, but also draw tourists here. Bird Sanctuary of Meghalaya is no exception in this regard. A bird sanctuary located in the state of Meghalaya is Siju Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is described below.

Siju Bird Sanctuary
Siju Bird Sanctuary is located in South Garo Hill, on the side of the Simsang River, opposite the famous Siju caves. This bird sanctuary serves as a home to a wide range of native birds. It is visited by many migratory species in the winter months. Some of the avian species which have been spotted here are rare or endangered. It is important to note that the birds in the sanctuary are not kept in cage or enclosure. Important migratory bird species noted at the sanctuary are Siberian ducks, grey hornbill and peacock pheasant. Butterfly and reptiles also receive shelter in Siju Bird Sanctuary. November to March is considered to be the ideal time to visit Siju Bird Sanctuary.
