Barghat

Barghat is a town of the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh.

The district of Seoni has its district headquarters in the town of Seoni. It is a part of the Jabalpur Division. The District of Seoni is a part of the Satpura tableland, including the `headwaters` of the Wainganga. It is covered with dense forests. It has a total area of 3,206 square miles. According to the 2001 India census, the district has a population of 1,166,608. The district has picturesque natural sceneries and fertile valleys. The northern and western parts include the plateaus of Lakhnhdon and Seoni, the eastern segment consists of the watershed and the elevated basin of the Wainganga; and the southwestern region comprises a narrow strip of rocky land known as Dongartal. The heights of the plateaus of Seoni and Lakhngdon range from 1,800 to 2,000 ft. The plateaus are well cultivated and free of jungle. The northern part of Seoni consists of trap hills and the southern part contains the crystalline rocks. The soil of the plateaus is the rich black cotton type soil formed by decomposed trap. The average annual rainfall is 53 inches. The major crops are wheat, rice, pulse, millets, oil seeds and cotton. Three railway lines of the Bengal- Nagpur route pass through the district. The Seoni District is the place that acts as the backdrop for Rudyard Kipling`s Jungle Books.

The exact location of the Barghat town is at 22.03° N and 79.72° East. It has a mean elevation of 537 metres (1761 feet). As per the 2001 India census, the town of Barghat has a population of 10,425. 51% of the population is males and 49% are females. The mean literacy rate of the town is 73%, higher than the nationwide standard of 59.5%. 56% of the males and 44% of the females are literate. 13% of the population is children below six years of age.
