Barahiya is a city as well as a municipality in the Lakhisarai district in the state of Bihar in India. There are a total of thirty -seven districts in the state of Bihar in India and the Lakhisarai district is one of them. This district is a part of the Munger Division. The administrative headquarters of this district are located in the Lakhisarai town. The total population of the district is 671634. 586294 people live in rural areas and 85340 in urban areas. The blocks of the district are Barahia, Piparia, Ramgarh Chowk, Lakhisarai, Surya garha and Halsi. The rivers that flow through this region are Mohane, Harohar, Kiul and Ganges. The crops grown here are wheat, lentils and paddy. Lakhisarai is renowned for the Ashokdham temple and the Maharani temple at Barahiya. The city is distinctively known for its Sindur production.

Barahiya has a mean literacy rate of 59%, lower than the nationwide average of 59.9%. 61% of the males and 39% of the females are literate. 15% of the population are children below six years of age.
