Bara Bamonia

Bara Bamonia is a census town situated in the North 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal in India. The town is under the jurisdiction of the Habra police station of Barasat sadar sub- division. The administrative headquarters of the district are situated in Barasat. The district lies between 23°15` North and 22°11` North latitude and between 89°5` East and 88°20` East longitude. The district is positioned in the Ganges- Brahmaputra delta. The river Ganges runs along the total west margin of the district. There are also many other rivers. Some of these are the Ichhamati, the Jamuna, and the Bidyadhari. The soil constitution of the district varies from sandy to clayey loam. The district experiences tropical type of climate, similar to the rest of the Gangetic West Bengal. The characteristic feature is the monsoons, which last from around the beginning of June to the middle of September. The weather conditions remain arid during the winter (mid November to mid February) and become humid during the summer. Temperature conditions vary from a maximum of 41°C in May to a minimum of 10°C in January. The normal annual rainfall is about 1,579 mm. Relative Humidity is around 50% in March but can rise upto 90% in July. The occupation of the people is mainly farming or service. The municipalities of the district include Halisahar, Garulia, Kanchrapara, Naihati and Bhatpara. As per the 2001 census, the population of the district is 89,30,295. There are 46,35,262 males and 42,95,033 females. The district, which covers an area of 4094 square km, has a population density of 2181 persons per square km. The literacy rate is 78.07%, with 83.92% males and 71.72 % females literate. The important towns of the North 24 Parganas district are Barrackpore, Duttapukur, Basirhat, Belgharia, Khardaha, Naihati, Sodepur, Gobardanga, Barasat, Madhyamgram, Bongaon, Habra and Jagulia.

According to the 2001 India census, the population of Bara Bamonia is 6174. Males comprise 51% of the population and females constitute 49%. Bara Bamonia has a mean literacy rate of 73%, greater than the countrywide average of 59.5%. 55% of the males and 45% of the females are literate. 13% of the population is children below six years of age.
